Pest identification and organic control workshop

Sunday 22 November 2026, 10am – 12.30pm
Bunya Pavilion, Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens

The workshop will cover:
– identifying factors affecting plants and how to recognise them including environmental, nutritional, pests and diseases. We will look at general issues with plant conditions and analyse why the plants are suffering, which may include poor drainage, issues with soil fertility, and largely due to pests and diseases attacking the plants.
– Insects – friend or foe? How do you know? We will look at the type of damage by different insect groups to help identify the pest (or possum) doing the damage
– management of pests without chemicals, which should always be chemical free. We will look at drowning pests, adding adhesive so they can no longer fly, or adding other pests to eat them (like the chooks)
– preventative actions for healthier plants,  to minimise health issues. Pruning or cutting back techniques, planting the right plant in the right position etc.
