Garden Vision

The vision for this garden includes other major strategic development. We have a concept design for a conference and function centre that will be a centre piece to the garden itself and will complement all the activities within the garden.

So, once the garden, together with the education building and the conference & function centre, are fully developed SHBG will be able to operate in a sustainable way; in fact, we already do that by raising our own operational costs and making sure we manage in a lean way. The amount of funding we need for development costs, however, is beyond our capability to raise in our fundraising efforts in our lifetime; we must rely on grants and large donations.

The Garden

Award winning Landscape Architects Taylor Cullity Lethlean were commissioned to provide the design for the 33 acres of gardens that has commenced but require substantial investment to bring the vision to completion.

Education Centre

A development approved building to adjoin the existing “shed” that will provide undercover space for a variety of purposes including education, community use and small events. An undercover verandah will provide additional space.

Conference & Function Centre

The major large building onsite that will provide offices, visitor centre, café, meeting rooms, conference and wedding space together with a full commercial kitchen. The various spaces will accommodate both large and small  numbers of guests for a variety of purposes.

Award winning architects John Wardle Architects won a recent competition to design the Centre that will overlook the gardens to the East and provide a focal point for visitors.
