Learn basic techniques for collecting, cleaning, drying and storing seed. From vegetable to natives to flowering or general garden plants, seed saving can be fun, a cheap way to grow plants and is essential for the survival of heritage varieties of vegetables and unusual or hard to find plants.
The workshop will introduce participants to the fascinating and rewarding world of seed saving. Successful growing from seed starts at the very beginning – choosing the right plants for seed collection, harvesting at the right time, storing successfully so seed stays viable and providing any treatment to the seed needed to ensure good germination.
Learn how to grow strong plants from seeds, how to fertilise, when to pot up or plant out, or even which seeds should be sown directly in the garden for best success.
We will explore factors which limit seed germination and how to address them, including organic methods for controlling snails and slugs!
